CODE OF CONDUCT
In order to ensure that Thornhill Lodge can work towards accomplishing its goals and mission, all the members must work effectively together as a unit to provide the needed support for the work of this body. The members must be cohesive and must work as a unit supporting the overall lodge’s best interest.
Members must abide by the rules of conduct that enable the Lodge to operate successfully. They must agree to work together and accept the basic need for mutual respect, cooperation and group decision making. All Members of the Lodge must agree to abide by the following rules:
1. Members accept their shared responsibility and liability for the performance of the Lodge.
2. Members act in the interest of the Lodge and B’nai Brith
3. Members who anticipate a personal gain as a result of a decision of the Lodge should acknowledge a potential conflict of interest and withdraw from the discussion to avoid any perception they are acting in their own interest instead of the Lodge’s.
4. By being a member of the Lodge, members declare their belief that the Lodge and its members and the executive members are acting in the best interests of B’nai Brith
5. Members respect the group process, and operate within that process.
6. Members treat each other with respect and dignity. Members express their views respectfully and listen respectfully to the views of others.
7. Members raise their concerns and discuss their differences and abide by the decision of the Lodge Executive once the discussion is over.
8. Members respect the confidential nature of the discussions taking place at all Lodge meetings.
9. Members serve as ambassadors of their respective lodges whose purpose is to promote agreed upon lodge programming and advocating for B’nai Brith
10. Members do not speak on behalf of the Lodge unless authorized to do so by the Executive Committee and in agreement with the policies of B’nai Brith
11. Members who cannot accept a collective decision of the Lodge and who act to undermine a collective decision of the Lodge should recognize that they cannot fulfill their duties under sections 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7 of the code of conduct and cannot continue to act in the best interests of B’nai Brith.
12. Members attend Lodge General meetings and meaningfully participate in discussions.
13. Members respect their obligation to their lodge, their fellow Lodge members by giving matters due consideration, raising concerns as they arise and advising the Lodge Executive of issues that may be of concern between meetings of the Executive.
14. Members share in the work of the Lodge through committees and other related work and are committed to B’nai Brith in a meaningful way.
15. Members respect and support the Lodge processes by referring matters to their Executive. Members do not act or undermine the processes agreed to by the Lodge and their document.
16. Members will assist each other in fulfilling their joint obligations to their lodges and B’nai Brith Canada.
