Phyllis and Philip, Presidents Thornhill Lodge

How many things do you get to do that have you walking away feeling you've gotten more out of it than you actually gave? Last Sunday I had the privilege of attending the Seniors Bingo as a volunteer. To say it was a mitzvah of the highest heartwarming order would be understating the event. Spending a couple of hours with Seniors, who live for these special occasions gives you a feeling that you can't know until you go. So, for your sake and not for theirs, come out to Seniors Bingo and feel the warmth. Following Bingo we all went to Timmy's for a group hug and a delightful coffee. After warming the soul it was also wonderful to warm the chilly day with hot coffee and wonderful caring friends.

With Love and Friendship,

Phyllis and Philip

Susan and Julius, Vice-Presidents Thornhill Lodge

Happy New Year!   We hope you had a restful and enjoyable time with your friends and families and now feel renewed and energized!  It seems a long time since we had our scrumptious Pot Latke event [many thanks to the Jacobsons for a phenomenal job!].  We have many talented cooks in our lodge.  Your Executive has been hard at work planning some wonderful programs for the upcoming months.  On January 14th, our very own Rhonda Shlanger will be sharing her first-hand experiences in dealing with Autism.  Copies of her book [its main subject will be there in person] will be available.  Don't miss this inspiring program!

We are kicking off the month of February with our Sweetheart Event at the City Playhouse followed by a sinfully elegant dessert buffet being organized by the Majors.  The show is entitled "Jersey Nights", a musical revue of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.  Our first block of tickets has already sold out but a second block has been secured and there are still some seats available.  Check the Shofar for further details.

In March we present Al Nevis who is an expert on the JFK assassination.  Al was the top consultant to movie producer Oliver Stone during the filming of the movie.  We are indeed fortunate to have Al join us, another event not to be missed!

As a reminder, all our events and happenings are posted in the Shofar.  Check out the winter edition that Phyllis has recently updated.  Thanks to her, there is always something new and exciting to read in the Shofar.

Our awesome bowling Presidents, Anne & Harold Borsuk, are hard at work planning our summer bowling weekend.  This annual event for our bowling couples has truly become one of the highlights that we look forward to every year.  We can't wait to find out where this one will be!

For all our vacationing snowbirds, we hope you are enjoying the warm weather down south.  Send some up here!  On behalf of Julius and myself, we wish you a very healthy, happy and prosperous 2012.

Warmest regards,

Susan & Julius Grabel
